In this area the company has a long term roadmap to address the development of high quality headsets to generate a sense of “presence” in the metaverse and also address other challenges such as interconnectivity, privacy and security. A period of 10 to 15 years is projected for the investments and technology behind the metaverse and its associated devices to reach their potential. To build the metaverse Meta is pushing the development of virtual reality through its Meta Quest devices, augmented reality, through Instagram and Facebook and now also mixed reality with Meta Quest Pro. To this end, it makes available its tools for VR developers through the integration of its SDK with OpenXR and AR through Meta Spark Studio. The certification is for those companies that have developed immersive reality products with the tools available from Meta for VR and AR.
